Rüştü is the most capped Turkish player with 120 international games

Rüştü Reçber, the legendary Turkish goalkeeper has been tested positive with coronavirus. The 46 year-old stopper rapidly developed the symptoms of coronavirus and fell ill. He was later rushed to hospital where he is receiving medical treatment.

“I would have liked to give you better news while being transparent about the truth but I’m sorry to say that my husband is hospitalized with the diagnosis of Covid-19”, revealed his wife Isil Reçber. “Everything was normal when he suddenly developed symptoms really fast and we are still in shock. These are critical and difficult times. My only request is for people to have conscious and be respectful.”

Rüştü spent most of his career at Turkish club Fenerbahçe, representing them in 294 games. He is also the most capped Turkish player with 120 international games. He came to prominence at international scene with his performance in FIFA World Cup 2002 held in South Korea and Japan where Turkey finished third in the tournament.

His World Cup performance saw him earn a place in 2002 FIFA World Cup team of the tournament. Several European clubs showed interest in him after his outstanding performance. He ended up joining Barcelona but had an unsuccessful stint with the Catalan club as he played only 4 games for the club in one season.

After testing positive for the coronavirus test, Rüştü’s wife and children also tested but the results were negative. “My test was negative along with my son and my daughter. He’s (Rüştü) in hospital and we are not allowed to see him. This is the most difficult part, not being able to be with him. God is great and he’s entrusted to Turkish doctors. These days will pass too. Please do not spare your prayers. #YouAreStrongRR”, added Isil.
